My initial encounter with the country was a start awakening, it was overwhelming, leaving me grappling with a deep shock.
When I embarked on a photographic journey to document the lives of Afghan children, I found it challenging, especially to channel my emotions and make sense of the situation.
Afghan children exist within a complex society, marked by vulnerability and hopes.
They grow up in a country shaped by decades of conflict and socio-economic challenges, victims of social inequalities and forces beyond their control.
I explore to understand the experiences of these young individuals, how they navigate the complexity of their environment.
Afghan women, often pushed to the sidelines of their society, play the main role in shaping their children’s lives and despite facing several obstacles, they strive to provide care, love and protection for their children.
Poverty and malnutrition heavily impact the physical and cognitive development of many of them.
In addition to this, the prevalence of child labour in Afghanistan is a clear reminder of the economic hardship faced by many families.
This is a reminder that the future of Afghanistan rests on the shoulders of its children.
By investing in their wellbeing and education, empowerment, we invest in a brighter future for the entire nation.
